Maas Nursery

We went on a road trip today to Maas Nursery. It's a beautiful place-huge-8 acres of any and everything you would need for gardening or landscaping. We really enjoyed it. A Walk to the Lake

After Christmas Dinner we all walked down to the lake a couple of blocks from our house. It was a beautiful, sunny cool day. The weather changed suddenly in the late afternoon and storms came blowing in. But we did get some time at the lake first.

Beautiful Live Oaks

When my sister visited us in December, she and I made a trip over to Mississippi to see my Kids. One thing I noticed and enjoyed seeing again was the beautiful Live Oak trees on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. These beauties can live for hundreds of years and get huge. The limbs will get so long and heavy that they will go to the ground and back up again. They can survive hurricanes, flooding and drought. Along the coast after Katrina, Oaks were all that were left for miles. They are beautiful to me and I love seeing their shape and structure. However, they do drop leaves years round and tons of acorns in the fall. The squirrels love them. I find baby oaks trees growing in my flower beds all the time from the squirrels hiding them. Moody Gardens

I haven't blogged anything about our wonderful Christmas Holidays. The whole month of December was so pleasant and busy with visitors and a trip to Mississippi. My daughter and her family came out for a week over Christmas and one of the things we did while they were here was to load up and drive down to Galveston, to Moody Gardens. My daughter has 3 wonderful boys and we took 3 kids with us that are our neighbors. One of the pyramids is a Tropical Rain Forrest and I think it is our favorite place. Especially in the winter when nothing else is blooming. Here are a few of the beautiful plants and flowers

The Little Foot Stool

This is a little foot stool that my grandfather, Popi, made for me many years ago when I was a little girl. She has followed me everywhere and has been many different colors. I think she started out gold, then green then white and finally a soft yellow. I stenciled the vines and flowers on top.

My Popi was a dear man-old school and treated us (me and my 2 sisters-his only grand children) as if we were princesses. To him, I guess we were. They don't build them like my Popi any more.

Christmas Decorating Finally Finished

I think I am finally finished with the Christmas Decorating. If I'm not oh well I'm done for anyway. It has taken about 2 weeks and I don't do all that much.

The above picture is the fire place and tree from across the room. The birds on the mantel live there year round and I just change greenery from one season to the next.

As I was putting the decoration on the tree at week, I noticed I have many bird ones. I do love birds of all kinds. Some I have made out of stained glass and some others have made. Here's a few:

OK so Blogger wants to upload everything backward. OK we will continue I made this shiny little center piece on a some table by putting down a 20 lite strand of lights, with a silver bead garland on top and some shiny balls. It really looks good and is real shiny.

And last but not least certainly, is the manager scene on the bar. We don't eat at this bar-it's kind of narrow. But I keep it decorated for different seasons too and it works well as a buffet when I have company as the stove is just on the other side. I know that manager scenes are not really Biblicaly correct as the wise men didn't show up until Jesus was about 2 years old but I like having it out as a reminder as to what it's all about.

The wreath making for the next season begins

This is very easy. I bought 2 tubes of plastic balls from Hobby Lobby-total of 50. Put a drop of glue on the hanger to hold it on the ball. Used a glue gun. And them threaded them on the hanger. Easy as can be
